Seth Dressler - Region 1

Seth Dressler, County of Siskiyou, Region 1

It is with great passion and enthusiasm that I accept nomination for and express my intention to serve as a member of the CACEO Board of Directors for Region 1.  CACEO has an admirable history and reputation within the State of California and even beyond its boundaries.  I would like to contribute my efforts as a Region 1 Board of Directors member to maintain and further this success.

For the past decade I have been a proficient public servant.  I spent nearly ten years working law enforcement in our nations’ capital, Washington, D.C.  During my tenure I gained a wealth of training, experience, and accomplishment.  This involvement with law enforcement gave me the necessary investigation, public speaking, and problem solving skills needed for code enforcement.

Most recently I have moved to Siskiyou County, California and bought a home.  I have been employed with the County’s Community Development Department approaching two years now. Upon coming on, I was tasked with the creation of a code enforcement program, as the County had not had such program in place since the economic downturn in 2008.  I now have a functioning code enforcement program on the ground and running.  There have been some adequate successes and also some tremendous hurdles to turn into stepping stones, but overall it is a learning process that will take more time and effort to iron out.  Working in the North State can be quite challenging when it comes to resources and policies.  I have since hired a small team to assist me with the program, a second full-time officer, one part-time officer, and a part-time administrative specialist.

During my time here in California, I have progressed quickly in the realm of code enforcement.  I was able to complete the entire CACEO academy in less than 6 months and since then have begun to instruct classes for CACEO in Module 3 course (Advanced Academy).

In my capacity as Code Compliance Officer, I have extensive experience working with multi-jurisdictional agencies in all levels of government. I also serve on two county boards. I am the chair of the Siskiyou County Behavioral Health Services Board and a member of the Social Services Transportation Advisory Committee. I am quite familiar with the rules of order and the process that go along with serving term on a board.  This experience provides me with an acumen and understanding of our profession and boards that govern policy, which shall serve as an asset to the board.

CACEO has done some amazing work for our profession and I hope to bring my experience to work in maintaining this great organization, while furthering success toward the mission of a unified statewide voice.

To this end, as your board member, I wish to add more voice to the North State, a rural, mountainous, and otherwise isolated region of California which has markedly and historically been largely under-represented in state laws, policies, and resources.  I pledge to assist our board of directors accomplish its mission. I trust that my broad experience provides me with a comprehensive and practical knowledge that qualifies me to represent you in Region 1 on the board. I will serve the members with dependability, integrity, and distinction.
